Using Your Website as a Marketing Tool

Maybe the title of this post is obvious to you, it's become obvious to me that a lot of people do not really look at their website as a marketing tool. They just think that if they throw some information up on a webpage that they'll attract some visitors and be able to say that their company has a website. But there's so much more power to a website than simply an information page. For instance, if your company is running a print ad campaign promoting a contest or a radio ad campaign, why isn't that somewhere on your website?

But the number of hits your getting on your site have been really low and so far have not produced any significant leads. You've seen a lot of ads about how to get your company ranked high in search engines or how to get thousands and thousands of hits on your site every day, but the truth is getting your site seen by lots of quality leads is not easy and takes a lot of time and some money.

My First Crowdspring Entry and Experience

So far my experience with Crowdspring has been pretty bland. The site seems to work as advertised until you decide to actually put work on it. Uploading the work wasn't a problem at all and everything went as advertised. But the project that I entered has gotten absolutly no feedback at all. The project closes in four days from today, so I guess I'll know then if the buyer decided he likes mine or not for sure. Of course this is just one of their standard projects and not a 'pro' project, but still, I would have thought I would have gotten better feedback from the potential customer. The project has gotten 81 entries from various different sources. I personally think mine is one of the best enteries and deserves some consideration. So this is the downfall of something like Crowdspring; you really have no clue as to how the clients are going to work with you and commuinicate.
So whether or not my experience with this website will ultimately be a good experience or not depends on a lot of variables. I will continue to update my blog as I go along as I will also consider other online freelance opportunities and blog about those as well. My next step with Crowdspring is to try one of their 'pro' projects and see how that turns out. Right now I'm not really optimistic that there will be anything really outstanding coming out of this site, and I'll continue to look for other sites that allow designers to get work without a ton of hassle. It is my opinion that finding work in a field such as graphic design shouldn't be similar to dentistry or another profession isn which pulling teeth is a major source of income.

Parma Ohio: Pampered Pets Ohio Goes Live

Pampered Pets was a fun project, because it allowed me to create a site that was a little more creative than the more serious business websites that I normally work on. Of course looking for pictures of cute animals to create the top banner was fun too.
Pampered Pets Ohio was designed by Eagles Eye Design a couple of months ago but they've already managed to achieve 4th place in a major search engine by the keywords pampered pets (at least in the North Eastern Ohio region). There are many techniques that have been used to achieve this status, but a quality design is definitely helpful in getting to a good spot.

Eagles Eye Design Launches New Drupal Based Site

As of February 2010, Eagles Eye Design has moved from an HTML based web design that didn't have a lot of flexibility to a fully customizable Drupal based website. This means that the Cleveland, Ohio based web design company will have a much broader base to which to appeal when new websites. Drupal allows you to have content managed site that can be expanded very easily.
Yet while Drupal allows you to manage content very quickly and easily, it also allows you to build sites that are very standards complaint, unlike many content management systems that output sites that are very far from being compliant with web standards.
Also, Drupal allows you the flexibility of changing your website's look in a moment. There's tons of templates out there made just for Drupal, many of which are free and look very professional. The power of Drupal is in the ability to customize just about everything. It's possible to set up site that will look exactly the way you intended.
